our neighbors went out of town this weekend and asked us to tend to their strawberry patch. so... my daughter and i harvested some fresh strawberries and made some scones for a saturday morning treat. we then popped over to the farmers market and delivered some to some of our favorite farmers. a pretty 'sweet' saturday.
recipe was adapted from here
1 pint of fresh strawberries
3 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup turbinado sugar
5 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg 3/4 cup milk juice from 1 lemon
3/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
-pre-heat oven to 400 degrees
-remove stems, and slice strawberries, set aside
-in a medium sized bowl, combine all dry ingredients
-in a separate large bowl, beat egg, milk, and lemon juice
-slowly, add the dry ingredients
-fold in the butter and then the strawberries
-on a greased baking sheet slowly spoon the scone batter
-makes appoximately a dozen scones
-bake for 20 minutes or until brown.
*keep an eye on the bottoms, ours got a little brown from the berries
**would be mighty tasty with a dollop of whipped cream!
